Can you imagine operating a clinic without water?
Yonkofa Project can’t get to all these projects on our own, but we have some amazing partners. We we received this request, we contacted Unto The Least of His, a charity which has provided clean water to villages all over Africa. The Achimfo Health Centre now has two polytanks so that they can restore running water to their clinic. Unto the Least of His is also providing water to the village in Kordjour, and polytanks to the Health Center in Devego.
REQUEST FOR POLYTANKS FOR USE AT THE ACHIMFO HEALTH CENTRE IN THE AOWIN MUNICIPALITY
The Achimfo Health centre is one of the oldest facilities (situated in a hilly area) in the Aowin municipality. In 2018, it was estimated to serve a target population of about 9,826 of which 20% and 24% are children under age 5 years and women in fertility age respectively. Service delivery especially maternal and child health services had not been at its best due to various challenges such as absence of portable water, infrastructure and logistic challenge. Some interventions such as community engagement were carried out in 2018 to address some of the challenges.
The health staff either uses harvested rain water or fetches water from the low lying community for use for service delivery. This practice has not only affected services, but has also contributed to the decline in the number of pregnant women visiting for skilled delivery even when they attend antenatal care at the facility. For instance, out of the 193 newly registrants for antenatal care service, only 80 of them had their babies delivered at the facility mainly because the inconvenience of carrying water upstream by relatives for use by the delivering mothers for bathing
Engagements with the community leaders and the clinic health committee numbers resulted in the drilling of a bore hole - which was successful - around the low lying side of the community. Based on the profile of the water obtained there was a need to treat once it was pumped out before they could be used. Thus, there was a need to obtain two water reservoirs (polytanks): one for filtering and treatment; and the second as storage for the treated water. Water will be distributed to the facility from the second pump.
I humbly write on behalf of the community health committee and the health directorate to request for support for a donation of two polytanks to improve infection prevention practices and other aspects of the health delivery as well as motivate the community and its leadership for the steps they have taken so far to revamp health service in the area.
I hope this request will meet your kind consideration.
Counting on your maximum co-operation and support.
